Many Winter fairy tales are told and famous locations such as Lillehammer (Norway) or St. Moritz (Switzerland) are well-known, KITZBÜHEL close to the „Wilder Kaiser“ mountains for sure belongs to those places.
Since many years I visit Kitzbühel several times a year and appreciate the sound mix of glamor and cosiness – either in the mountains or downtown.
In addition to the famous painter „Walde“ and the instrument maker „Mürnseer“, it is of course the winter sports tradition with its big names, that pull the jet set to Kitzbühel again and again. At top of the list in January is the Hahnenkamm Race , where former local heros like Toni Sailer and womenizer Hansi Hinterseer were once victorious. The lift gondolas, by the way, show the names of all winners.
At the same time, other winter events regularly take place, such as snow-polo, horse-sled race or classic car rallyes, not to forget the legendary fireworks right on the slopes by Pyro World Champion Armin Lukasser on the evening of 01.01. (many events for free).
Sure, the lift tickets are high priced, but in each of the noble-rustic huts you can still get the good old „Skiwater“ (fruit syrup with water), which costs just EUR 2.-.
Anyone who wants to know how it feels to rush down the Streif Ski Run (thanks to snow cover from November to April) has the daily opportunity to so. Except maybe the dangerous „Mausefalle“ (40 degrees steep) and so called „Hausbergkante“it is open to everyone.
Open to everyone of course are also other In-places, where we always feel comcomfortable and welcome, whether with or without prominent faces at the neighborhood-table. Whether it’s the yodelling Rosi at the mountain hut, the picturesque Rasmushof at the foot of the Ganslernhang, the Tenne in the pedestrian zone or the famous „Cattle Barn“-Restaurant in the near by village Going, where the highsociety meets on New Year’s Eve and mid January for the Weißwurst Party.
Incidentally, the few real celebrities (not the wannabees) are not showy at all, suddenly they are just next to you such as M. Schweighöfer, DJ Ötzi or A. Schwarzenegger and at the time of the Hahnenkamm Race, of course, many of the racers during lunch time.
Since the famous Streif runway ends almost in the middle of the village, sports, culture, shopping and culinary art can be well combined. In addition to old-established coffee houses and shops, many well-known brands are present. The Tyrolean himself lives his fashion lifestyle rather individually and likes to combine his outfit with red-white-red stripes or likes funny lingerie Made in Austria, which are designed with mountain names or map profiles: like Großglockner, Heiligenblut or Wilder Kaiser.
The current ski fashion is dominated by black-white and red as well as gold / silver outfits; often with lush (artificial) fur collar.
In terms of sportswear I like it functional, no matter what brand, and black is always in fashion.
Well , Madln and Buarm (Girls & Gents), let’s go … Skifoarn or simply enjoy the snow on foot or by horse carriage with a schnapps …
